Rod Stewart: ‘You don't dump a rock star!’ Singer, 74, says split from wife 'knocked’ him

Rod Stewart, 74, who has eight children by five different mothers, has been married to Penny Lancaster since 2007. But before meeting the Loose Women panelist, the rocker was married to Rachel Hunter.

Speaking about his split from the mother of two of his children, Cecili and Liam, Rod told The Mail on Sunday’s Weekend Magazine: “I couldn’t believe it.”

He went on: “I was a rock star. You don’t dump a rock star! It knocked me for six. It was a huge shock.”

Rachel is 26 years younger than Rod and the hitmaker admitted the age difference impacted their relationship.

“She was just 21 when we married and a mum a year later,” he said.

“My sister Mary told me she was too young for me as we were walking down the aisle. And she was right.”

The couple divorced in 2006 and one year later, Rod and Penny tied the knot in a lavish Italian wedding.

Talking about how Penny deals with all of his different ex-partners and children, Rod acknowledged how well his wife does.

“I don’t know how she does it,” he spilled. “I get on well with all of them, although it can be a bit awkward if Alana and Kelly [Emberg, mother of Rod’s daughter Ruby] and Rachel [Hunter] are all in the same room.

Penny quickly interrupted: ”Darling, you’re 75… you’re 76 in January,” which left the audience in fits of laughter.

However, Rod disagreed and shouted: “No I’m not, shut up… no I’m not, I’m 74 now…”

Penny then realised she had got Rod’s age mixed up with her dad, who she revealed is a year older than her spouse.

She quickly hugged him, telling him: “Oh maybe I’m talking about my dad, because he’s one year older!
