Rod Stewart enjoys Celtic win over Lazio as he hails one of his best days ever as Hoops fan

Sir Rod Stewart said he’d had one of the best days ever as a Hoops fan after the lasp-gasp 2-1 win over Lazio on Thursday night.

The legendary rocker has headed to Rome for the Europa League group game and was spotted partying with fellow Hoops fans in the Italian city.

And after Celtic scored a late winner against Lazio after coming from 1-0 down, a thrilled Rod said “I’m over the bloody moon to be honest.

“It really is one of the best results Celtic have had – beating an Italian team in Italy for the first time is really something and what a game it was.

“I watched the first 10 minutes and I was saying ‘oh no, we’re going to get hammered here.’

“But the boys really buckled down and got themselves sorted out and what a way to win it.”

Rod travelled to Rome with Scottish songwriter John Mclaughlin, a close pal.

The pair, along with another pal Warren, spent time hanging about the city and singing songs with fans .

The trio were flying back to Rod’s London home on a private jet after the match.

John said: “What a day we’ve had. We have partied like there’s no tomorrow and we have more of the same planned for the flight home.

“It’s hard to believe the way the match went – what a result and what an atmosphere. The Celtic fans were brilliant.”

He added: “We bumped onto Neil Lennon before the match and we shouted over to him that we’d settle for a draw.

”He said to us me, ‘forget a point wee man, we’ll be coming home with all three. And he was right, so I really think it’s worth a celebration.”

John said Rod was delighted to spend time with fellow fans. He said: “He’s done everything in music but there’s no airs and graces with him. He’s a great guy to hang out with.”
