Robin van Persie tells Man Utd to sign Edinson Cavani in summer

Robin van Persie has told Man Utd they should “definitely” sign Edinson Cavani this summer.

The PSG striker was linked with a move to Old Trafford in January, but United instead opted to loan Odion Ighalo until the end of the season.

Cavani looked set to join Atletico Madrid, but he stayed put in France past the transfer deadline, largely due to PSG’s£25million price tag.

But the Uruguayan is out of contract in the summer, meaning United could snap him up on a free, which van Persie feels is a no-brainer.

Asked who United should sign, van Persie told Sport Bible: “Edinson Cavani. I would definitely go for Cavani.

“He’s very fit, he’s a proven goalscorer, a goal machine, he has proven it at Napoli, PSG and Uruguay.

“With him, if he starts, he will get you 25 goals a season.

“I’ve watched him play, I’ve played against him, he is like a proper goalscorer.

“He lives by scoring goals so I’d go for him.”

Cavani has just turned 33, and has so far netted just five goals in 17 appearances for PSG this season.

Chances have been limited for the frontman however, with more than half of his appearances coming as a substitute.

He had asked to leave PSG last month amid interest from Atletico, but the club had no intention of selling him.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is also a keen admirer of Cavani’s talents, having admitted last month he is a “good player”.
