Roberto Firmino stands out as the best Liverpool player to watch after a superb performance against Genk, according to former Reds striker Peter Crouch.

The Brazilian did not get on the score sheet, or even have a shot on target in the 4-1 win in Belgium, but he caught the eye with his incredible link-up play.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored twice, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah also netting, but it was Firmino who Crouch, along with fellow BT Sports pundits Robin van Persie and Rio Ferdinand, picked out.

‘Watching those three play is a joy, it really is a joy,’ Crouch said of the Reds’ front three. ‘Firmino today at times was just… he’s got to be the best to watch at the moment, for me personally.

‘What I love, there’s flicks and tricks but they’ve all got a purpose, he’s not a show pony, all these flicks and tricks have got an end product, he’s never doing it for the sake of it.

‘He brings so much to this team.’

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand went as far as to say he loves the Brazil international…as a player.

‘He just screams nonchalance when he’s on the pitch because everything he does is in his own time,’ said Rio. ‘He almost slows the game down when it gets to him.

‘He’s an integral part to this team and how they play, the ball goes into him, it sticks and other people can run off him.

‘He’s the platform for every type of attack they have, I love him as a player.’

Van Persie, who could barely contain his excitement over Oxlade-Chamberlain’s second goal, is impressed by how the front three interchange each week and they all pick up the slack when necessary.

‘What I like about them is that one week Mane is the best of the three, one week Salah, it’s just fantastic to watch all three of them,’ said the Dutchman.
