Robert Pattinson serves up a hefty slice of creepy in his latest film, The Lighthouse, and frankly, we’re going to have trouble sleeping tonight.

The Twilight star, who was announced as the next Batman, plays Ephraim Winslow, a shifty character who spends four weeks as an assistant to lighthouse keeper Thomas Wake (Willem Dafoe).

The trailer shows that the two guardians are on a remote New England in the 1890s so there isn’t much for poor R-Patz to do apart from clean, scrub floors and carry coal.

But things take a turn for the very weird very quick, as Robert and Willem form a begrudging kinship.

The pair pass the time by binge-drinking, battling storms, dancing, yelling, embracing and strangling each other.

Sounds like a standard Saturday night to us, tbf.

Robert’s character sneaks around the lighthouse in dark rooms, hiding a wooden mermaid inside his jacket, prompting Willem to ask: ‘Keeping secrets now?’

If that wasn’t strange enough, the black and white flick then gets pretty surreal, with shots of a mystery woman floating underwater and a slimy octopus-like creature hanging around behind Robert.

The hysteria and loneliness leads to Willem losing track of time, as well as his sanity.

‘How long have we been on this rock? Five weeks? Two days? Help me to recollect,’ Dafoe’s character asks Pattinson.

The film is co-written and directed by Robert Eggers, who helmed The Witch, and will hit US cinemas on October 18.

Robert, who is dating Suki Waterhouse, recently opened up about his admiration for Willem, 64, in the film.

‘My idea for The Lighthouse was that if I don’t really understand this script on a cerebral level, then I’ll try to understand it on a physical level,’ he told The Interview.

‘But I must say that I’ve never seen someone with such a supernatural level of energy as you.

‘I remember watching you and being, like,”How are you doing this?”’

Willem replied: ‘I’ll take that as flattery, but I’ll also return it by saying that your approach was fierce. You were a warrior.’
