Robert Pattinson almost quit acting after his Twilight audition went so horrifically badly

Twilight fans almost missed out on seeing Robert Pattinson in the iconic role of Edward Cullen as he admitted his audition couldn’t have gone worse.

Robert, 33, revealed that he – somewhat inexplicably – decided to take a guitar with him to the audition, which led to an awkward encounter.

He told TODAY: ‘It was the scene when [Edward] had a guitar… my agent was like, “Take your guitar into the audition.”

‘I just walked in and they were like, “Oh. You brought a guitar. Do you want to play us a song,” and I was like, “No. This is the worst decision I ever made.”

‘I was saying no and they were like, “You just brought a guitar into just to hold it? Why did you bring a guitar in?” My entire confidence just s**t the bed.

‘The audition was one of the worst auditions I did in my whole life. I remember calling my parents and saying, “I’m done, I can’t torture myself anymore,” and the next day I got a Twilight audition.’

Thankfully, he obviously did something right – despite the misadvised prop – as playing the glittery vampire shot him to fame and pretty much changed his life.

Along with the huge global success of the movie franchise came more than a small dose of fan hysteria and interest in his personal life as he started dating co-star Kristen Stewart, who played his on-screen love interest Bella Swan.

Robert also admitted that he doesn’t think he will get as much hysteria around his role as Batman as he did for Twlight – in part because he’s ‘old and boring’ now.

The actor explained: ‘There’s a part of me that just thinks it’s impossible to be what happened with Twilight because it was so sudden.

‘I’m hoping it won’t be people hanging out outside my place. I just think I’m kind of boring and old now.’

We don’t believe that for a second.
