Robert De Niro has expressed how he ‘can’t wait’ to see president Donald Trump in jail, comparing him to a ‘gangster’.

The 76-year-old actor, who stars in Martin Scorsese’s new mafia flick The Irishman, has made another pop at the US president after previously calling him ‘medically crazy’ in a TV interview.

Speaking to the Guardian, Robert said: ‘We have a real, immediate problem in that we have a gangster president who thinks he can do anything he wants… the problem is, if he actually gets away with it, then we all have a problem.

‘The gall of the people around him who actually defend him, these Republicans, is appalling, and we must do something about it.’

Asked about the possibilities of Trump heading to jail following the impeachment inquiry, Robert added: ‘Oh, I can’t wait to see him in jail. I don’t want him to die, I want him to go to jail.’

The actor also compared the president to a gangster on The Graham Norton Show, when he was asked about the appeal of mafia characters today.

Speaking on the show, Robert said: ‘Today we kind of have a weird twisted president who thinks he’s a gangster, who is not even a good gangster.

‘This is a guy, even gangsters have honour among thieves, you shake a hand and you have your word, that’s all you have is your word. They have your word and that’s it, this guy is not the case.’

‘I didn’t even bring him up ladies and gentlemen,’ Graham jokes back.

Robert is joined by Paul Rudd, Sienna Miller, and Bruce Springsteen on the show.

The Graham Norton Show airs Friday on BBC One at 10.35pm.
