Robbie Williams 'forming new band for raves' 25 years after quitting Take That

Robbie Williams is undertaking a new musical direction with his first new band since quitting Take That, 25 years ago.

The 46-year-old won’t be treading the same path as his former bandmates Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen as he launches a new project in which he will be hosting “what old folks call a rave.”

The Rock DJ singer has revealed his new musical plan during an Instagram Live chat and said that he is forming a band with a couple of Australian songwriters and producers.

Robbie even revealed that they have already got a bunch of songs ready to be released, they just have to come up with a name for their band.

Speaking on the social media site, Robbie said: “Little project that I’ve got going on with a couple of friends of mine, Flynn Francis and Tim Metcalfe. We’re forming a band everyone.

“I’ve got songs coming out that will not be under the name of Robbie Williams.”

This project will be far removed from his pop career as Robbie will be looking to take over empty warehouses so that he can deck them out with his artwork, which he has produced during lockdown, and then have a rave.

Speaking on Instagram Live, he continued: “I’m gonna do this thing with my friends. Form a band and what I’m gonna do is rent a space, put my art in there.

“During the day it’ll be a gallery. Then at night I shall be DJing and it will be a musical venue, something the old folks will call a rave.

“I’ll be on the espressos. Oh yes I will. Quadruple espresso. Doing it old school.”

Robbie enthused about his new direction, saying: “I’m very, very excited about this. I want to do it in Berlin.

“I also want to do it in Tokyo. I wanna do it in several places. Be fun won’t it?

“It’s one of them things, it’s a passion proj- ect. If some thing hap-pens then great, if not, I’ve just had fun.”

While this is far removed from Take That, Robbie did confirm during the summer that he had been writing material with Gary Barlow over Zoom.

He has boasted that he has written more than 50 songs during lockdown, including songs he has penned with wife Ayda.
