Robbie Savage auctioning Thierry Henry’s milestone Arsenal shirt to help NHS

The Mirror’s own Robbie Savage is putting one of his most precious football shirts up for auction to raise money for the NHS and its staff in their fight against coronavirus.

He owns the shirt Thierry Henry was wearing when he scored his 100th goal for Arsenal, playing against Robbie’s Birmingham City in 2003.

Now with the backing of the French World Cup winner, it will be auctioned on eBay.

Robbie says: “It’s one of my most prized possessions but these are unprecedented times and with the amazing work NHS staff are doing to save lives I want to raise as much money as possible – it’s a great cause.

Robbie Savage is auctioning off one of his prized possessions – this Thierry Henry shirt

“When I played against the legend that is Thierry Henry for Birmingham City he scored his 100th goal at St Andrews. And after the game I asked to swap shirts with him.

“I don’t think he knew he’d scored his 100th goal in an Arsenal shirt.

“I took the shirt, put it in my bag and when he realised, the kitman knocked on the door and asked for it back.

“I hid, and snuck out the back door – and took it home.”

All money raised will go to NHS Charities Together, which is running a Covid-19 Urgent Appeal.
