Rob Lowe loves skincare so much, it was written into his new show, '9-1-1: Lone Star'

PASADENA, Calif. – Hollywood producers know what they’re going to get when they cast Rob Lowe as the star of their show.

The actor, 55, is taking the reins of Fox’s “9-1-1” spinoff, “9-1-1: Lone Star” a new drama about emergency responders set in Austin, Texas, playing a fire captain transferred to Austin from New York City after a tragedy decimates a fire house. (The series premieres Jan. 19 at 10 EST/7 PST after Fox’s NFC Championship Game, then replaces “911” on Mondays starting Jan. 20).

Lowe’s firefighter, Owen Strand, is a strong leader and physically capable, but he’s also a skincare enthusiast, a characteristic added to suit Lowe’s personality.

“Let’s face it. I’m not a stranger to looking into the mirror,” Lowe joked to the Television Critics Association Tuesday. “It’s the only procedural where the leading man is obsessed with men’s skincare … There’s a whole thing where I become obsessed with losing my hair.”

Lowe credits executive producers Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear for knowing him a little too well.

“You have to understand, Tim, Brad and Ryan have known me for a long time. … I’ve been trying to find something for 20 years. Damn, those guys, because they know me. Keto, skin care. … They know how to write for me.”
