Rob Gronkowski retirement leads WWE fans to expect big announcement

Rob Gronkowski’s sudden decision to call time on his NFL career on Sunday has led to speculation that he could soon be seen in WWE.

The New England Patriots’ star tight end announced he’d be quitting the sport in a post on Instagram .

“It all started at 20 years old on stage at the NFL draft when my dream came true,” wrote the three-time Super Bowl winner.

“And now here I am about to turn 30 in a few months with a decision I feel is the biggest of my life so far.

“I will be retiring from the game of football today.

“Thank you for everyone accepting who I am and the dedication I have put into my work to be the best player I could be. But now its time to move forward.”

And that ‘move forward’ could involve the WWE.

Last month WWE superstar Triple H confirmed that “the door was open” for Gronkowski – who has made no secret of his love for wrestling and has made cameo appearances in the ring, including at WrestleMania in 2017 – to make the switch.

“Gronk has mentioned WWE before, that he loves it and said had so much fun doing it,” he sold Sports Illustrated .

“I don’t know if it’s something he’d be seriously interested in, but that’s how the conversation started with Ronda Rousey, too.

“Certainly the door is open for him at WWE.”

And following Gronkowski’s retirement, fans are now awaiting his next move.
