Rob Brydon first wife: How comedian was ‘derailed and lost’ by marriage breakdown


Rob Brydon returns to host Would I Lie to You? tonight (Saturday, August 3) at 9.30pm on BBC One. Also on the show is regular team captains, Lee Mack and David Mitchell. They will be joined by Mark Bonnar, Sheila Hancock, Stephen Mangan and Anita Rani on tonight’s show.

Rob Brydon is a Welsh comedian and actor, best known for playing Byrn West in Gavin and Stacey.

He is also well recognised for his role as Dr Pal Hamilton in Supernova and Keith in Marion and Geoff.

Brydon has worked alongside comedian Steve Coogan in The Trip and the follow-up films The Trip to Italy and The Trip to Spain.

Since 2009, Brydon has hosted the comedy panel show, Would I Lie to You?

He is currently married to television producer Clare Holland, who he met in 2006.

Brydon was previously married to Martina Fitchie and the pair have three children together.

Speaking to The Sunday Times Magazine in 2012, Brydon spoke about his divorce, describing himself as “derailed” and “lost” by the experience.

He said: “I’d been married, with three children, then that goes. All the stage posts in your life, the boundaries that there are, they vanish.”

“It just came to an end. It was just two people who said, right, this isn’t working, so we ended it.

“We did it in as civilised a manner as we could. We both wanted it to happen.”

He added: “I’ve tried to make my children’s parents’ divorce not a huge influence on their lives.

“I don’t see how you can do it any other way.”

Brydon is now married to Clare Holland, a former producer on The South Bank Show.

They married in 2006 in Windsor and have two sons together, Tom and George.

Brydon is 54-years-old and is from Baglan, Glamorgan, Wales.

He began his career as a radio comedy performer before going on to do impressions.

Brydon then embarked on a successful writing and acting career, starring in Gavin and Stacey, Human Remains and Marion and Geoff.

From 2006, he has appeared on numerous panel shows including I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, Have I Got News for You and QI.

In 2009, he took over from Angus Deayton to present Would I Lie to You? on BBC One.

The show is now into its 13th series after 12 years of being on TV.

In 2013, Byrdon was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 Birthday Honours for services to comedy and broadcasting and for charitable services.

Would I lie to You? airs every Saturday on BBC One at 9.30pm until 10pm.

Would I Lie to You? airs tonight at 9.30pm on BBC One.
