Roar starring Nicole Kidman is pegged to be Apple TV+'s next hit series: Here's what you need to know

We were excited to see Meera Syal, who’s been in everything from The Kumars at No. 42 and Anita and Me to, more recently, Richard CurtisYesterday and The Split, together with GLOW actors Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin, Nurse Jackie‘s Merritt Wever.

Other hot names include Atypical‘s Fivel Stewart and Kara Hayward (Manchester By The Sea, To The Stars).

Behind the camera, trio Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Allie Goss, from the production team Made Up Stories (the production team behind The Undoing), also serve as executive producers alongside Nicole Kidman, Per Saari, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch.

What will Roar be about?

Roar explores – according to Apple’s statement – “familiar domestic and professional situations” blended with “magical realism” and “futuristic worlds”.

Another theme is resilience: “How they emerge from their respective journeys speaks to the resiliency that exists within themselves, and with all women,” reads the Apple TV+ statement.

While those who have read Cecelia Ahern’s Roar might have a few ideas on what to expect, what complicates matters is that the collection is of 30 stories – whereas this anthology series spans just eight episodes, so the question remains of which will be featured in the plot (or in subsequent series, should the show get extended).

Is there a trailer for Roar?

We do not yet have a trailer for Roar, but what we do have is four sneak-peak images to whet our appetites. Some present more talking points than others: there’s Betty Gilpin, resplendent in an elaborate wedding gown, sitting on what looks to be a raised shelf in a terracotta room, while a mysterious man toasts her below.
