Riverdale season 4: What happened to the Farm? Will the cult return?

The third outing of Riverdale saw The Farm introduced into the show as Alice Cooper (played by Mädchen Amick) joined. Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) was left shocked by her mother’s conversion into a follower and tried to get to the bottom of the group. As the season went on, audiences finally met the enigmatic leader of The Farm, Edgar Evernever (Michael Chad Murray) and found out the truth about them.

The Farm was harvesting organs and selling them on for a profit.

However, before the authorities could be alerted, Betty’s older sister Polly Cooper (Tiera Skovbye) went with The Farm as they disappeared from Riverdale suddenly.

Alice, meanwhile, remained a devout follower despite their heinous misdeeds and true purpose.

Fans also learnt that Penelope Blossom (Nathlie Boltt) had purchased organs from The Farm, so she was in on the dark scam.

Given that this is Riverdale, anything could happen and the Farm is likely to return at a later point in season four.

Riverdale showrunner Robert Aguirre-Sacasa teased some details earlier this year at San Diego Comic Con, saying: “I can tell you that episode three is our big Farm episode and I think it brings that story – or at least this chapter of that story – to a close.

“Most of this season, a lot more is going to be based at the high school because it’s their last year of high school.

“It’s going to be a little more telling character stories with the exception of episode three. It’s like Dog Day afternoon, it’s a huge kind of action movie.

“So, it’s really really fun with Betty trying to get her mum out of the Farm once and for all.”

He added to Whedonpolis Videos: “Besides that episode, it’s going to be quieter. It’s going to be bittersweet. I’m excited about it. This year we do high school, that’s it.”

So it looks like The Farm will definitely be returning and that there will be final reckoning and Betty will be at the heart of this confrontation.

Another person who needs to be brought to justice is Penelope, who was revealed to have moulded Hal Cooper (Lachlan Munro) into the Black Hood and Chic Cooper/Charles (Hart Denton) into the Gargoyle King.

Penelope has so far evaded justice for her part but it could only be a matter of time.

For now, it looks like season four is going to be dealing primarily with the mystery surrounding Jughead’s disappearance.

Given Penelope is involved so much in Riverdale’s seamier side, she may also know more about what happened to Jughead (Cole Sprouse).

Perhaps she could also become a key player in the mystery and the intrigue?

Fans will have to wait and see how the story pans out but it looks like there will be more twists in this tale.

Riverdale season 4 starts October 10 on The CW and October 11 on Netflix
