Riverdale season 4 theories: Donna working with Mr Honey in sinister video tape plot

The murder of Jughead Jones (played by Cole Sprouse) has finally been solved, but there are always more sinister plots invading the town of Riverdale. With episodes airing around the world on Netflix and The CW, dedicated viewers have been wildly speculating what could happen in the lead up to the thrilling finale.

The last episode of Riverdale, The Locked Room, finally tied a ribbon on the extended mystery of Jughead’s apparent murder, to mixed results.

But, there is still the question of the sinister video tapes infesting the homes of Riverdale, taking unlikely inspiration from the French thriller, Caché.

Plus, Riverdale High has a new principal prowling the halls, and one who intends to take a much harder line with the school’s rebellious students.

Mr Honey (Kerr Smith) was introduced at the beginning of season four, when he promptly cancelled the upcoming school dance.

However, some fans believe he may have much more nefarious plans for the population of Riverdale, that could be revealed in the final three episodes of the season.

Fans have taken to Reddit to dissect some giveaway clues within the previous episodes.

Redditor Brynnrallo said: “Donna is either related to Mr. Honey, Mr. Svenson (because why not), or some random character we have never heard of.”

Donna Sweett (Sarah Desjardins) the Stonewall prep student already played a part in the conspiracy to kill Jughead, and the names Sweett and Honey are surely far too similar to be mere coincidence.

As the finale is set to be titled Killing Mr Honey, all hints are pointing at Mr Honey being revealed as the mastermind behind the creepy hidden tapes.

Other fans are not so convinced by the theory, as one commented: “I hope Donna isn’t anyone’s secret daughter/sister/cousin etc. because we have had enough of this recycled plotline already.”

Whilst other fans still have speculated Donna could even be related to Edgar Evernever (Chad Michael Murray), the now deceased leader of the brainwashing cult known as the Farm.

Riverdale is currently on hiatus, with the next instalment originally expected to drop on April 8.

Unfortunately, global concerns amid the coronavirus outbreak have stalled the production of many major television series, including Riverdale.

It could be many months until this season finally comes to an end and the secret behind the clandestine video tapes is uncovered at last.

On the brighter side, all that time should give the show’s writers plenty of opportunity to come up with many more of the conspiracies and convoluted twists Riverdale is infamous for.

Riverdale airs on The CW in the US on Wednesdays and Thursdays on Netflix UK.
