Riverdale season 4 spoilers: Cheryl Blossom to be plunged into danger amid Chimera tweet?

Season four of Riverdale will be premiering in a matter of weeks and the excitement is mounting for the new episodes. The new series of The CW drama picks up in the aftermath of the shocking finale of the last run which hinted something terrible had happened to fan-favourite Jughead Jones (played by Cole Sprouse). However, judging by a Twitter post from Riverale’s showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Jughead might not be the only one in trouble this year.

Posting to his 226,000 followers, the television executive shared an intriguing image of Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) merged with her girlfriend Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan).

The River Vixen was dressed in a nautical-themed outfit which has yet to be explained.

There was also a definition of “chimera” in the top right-hand corner which read: “A single organism that’s made up of cells from two or more “individuals” – that is, it contains two sets of DNA due to placental fusion during development.”

To add to the intrigue, Aguirre-Sacasa captioned the post: “The Chimera is coming. #Riverdale 408. Filming this week.”

However, there seemed to be confusion more than anything else amid the cryptic tweet.

The Greek myth of the Chimera tells of a monstrous female creature that was part lion, part goat and part dragon.

In the legend, the Chimera terrorised the districts of Caria and Lycia before she was defeated by the warrior Bellerophon.

If anything, the myth suggests Cheryl and Toni will be rising in power in season four as they unite.

Aguirre-Sacada has also hinted that season four will be filled with horror and Cheryl will be at the heart of this.

He tweeted a mock-up poster for the film Hereditary with Cheryl at the centre of it.

The writer captioned the tweet: “This season on #Riverdale. Horror is where the home is.”

At this stage it’s unclear whether this means Cheryl will be tormented by her enemies or if she will be taking control against others who seek to harm her and her friends.

The assertion is that Cheryl will become all-powerful in season four with the help of Toni.

However, season four is going to see a shift tonally with previous runs feeling more noir with crime and sleuthing.

Riverdale season 4 starts October 10 on The CW and October 11 on Netflix
