Barcelona legend Rivaldo believes Lionel Messi has played his last Champions League match for the club at the Camp Nou as he will leave at the end of the season.

The Argentine scored the opener on Tuesday but he watched on as Kylian Mbappe, who bagged a hat-trick, inspired the visitors to a 4-1 win in Barcelona.

Messi has six months to run on his deal at the club and he’s been heavily linked with a move to the French capital, with the club doing little to conceal their desire to sign the Argentina captain.

Barcelona’s decline has been dramatic over the last four years, while PSG look ready to dominate with Mbappe and Neymar set to sign new deals in Paris.

And Rivaldo says Messi may already be planning to join the Ligue 1 giants.

‘This may well have been Lionel Messi’s last match for Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League. And based on the quality PSG showed last night, I’m sure he might be thinking about joining them,’ Rivaldo told Betfair.

‘I want Messi to stay at Barcelona but I understand why he’d want to leave at the moment when the club is not guaranteeing him good chances of fighting for important titles regularly.

‘He can’t keep taking responsibility for the team on his own. Last summer, he saw Luis Suárez leave in an incomprehensible transfer that has made Atletico Madrid stronger.

‘I believe he will leave the club at the end of season.’

Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has vowed to convince Messi to stay at the club if he’s elected president in the upcoming elections in March.

However, he does admit that there’s strong interest from clubs around the world.

‘Messi wants to win with Barcelona,’ said Laporta.

‘I’ll do my best to keep him, there are some clubs really interested in signing him… but Leo wants to win titles, not just to earn money’.
