Riot Games Announces Dates, Venue for League of Legends World Championship

The 2021 League of Legends World Championship will return to China for the second year in a row, a schedule adjustment due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The finals will take place on Nov. 6 at the Universiade Sports Centre in Shenzhen – a 60K+-capacity stadium that plays home to Chinese professional soccer club Shenzhen F.C.

Last year’s final was held in the Shanghai Stadium. In 2017, Worlds took place at Beijing National Stadium.

Historically, the World Championship has rotated host regions between China, Korea, North America, and Europe (the game’s four major regions). The tournament has also toured various cities in the region for its earlier rounds before arriving at the finals venue. Due to the Pandemic, 2020’s championship was scaled down significantly, and so Riot delayed North America’s next turn hosting to 2022, allowing China to host a full scale event this year. Details on the earlier stages of the tournament have not yet been revealed.
