Rihanna’s new album might finally be coming as Def Jam Recordings drops ‘major hint’

Rihanna’s label Def Jam Records has hinted that her latest studio album R9 might be released soon and we need to sit down and breathe.

The company’s Twitter account tweeted out an image of RiRi holding up her hands in the shape of a diamond and captioned it with a diamond emoji.

She hasn’t released an album in three years and we don’t know how much longer we can hold out before we explode.

Considering the 31-year-old recently posted on Instagram trolling her fans on the release of the new album, we’re starting to get our hopes up now that Def Jam (kind of) confirmed it.

The Stay singer shared a video of a dog jumping up and down to the beat of House of Pain’s Jump Around on 22 December, along with the caption: ‘Update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it’.

Rihanna, please. There’s no time for jokes.

The post got around 3.5 million likes but we know those likes are riddled with impatient tears.

After seeing Def Jams tweet, fans reacted the only way they knew how: in a panicked frenzy.

‘MY BANK ACCOUNT IS READY,’ one user tweeted.

Another tweeted: ‘Y’all better not play with us!’ along with a photo of someone sulking on a chair.

A third added: ‘OH MY GOD????????’ along with a meme of SpongeBob with the caption ‘nobody move’.

Same, guys, same.

While Rihanna was not making the music we’ve been begging for, she has been juggling other projects, from her multimillion-dollar make-up line Fenty Beauty to her lingerie line Savage X Fenty.

She also has a fashion brand called Fenty under luxury fashion group LVMH which launched in May 2019, making her the first woman of colour to achieve this.

We understand why she’s disappeared, but we need new bops.
