Ricky Gervais has been asked once again to host the Golden Globes next year for their 77th annual celebration of the film and TV industry.
The genius behind Afterlife has already hosted the Globes, run by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s (HFPA) NBC, four times – in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016.
That’s a record when it comes to Globes hosts.
And he’s explained that once again he’s received an ‘offer I can’t refuse’ but that ‘this is the very last time I’m doing this’.
The 58-year-old added that the finality of the situation ‘could make for a fun evening’.
Uh oh.
Apparently several comedians have been considered for the role, but Ricky kept coming to mind.
Speaking to Deadline, Paul Telegdy, NBC Entertainment Chairman explained: ‘There is always a palpable electricity in the room when Ricky takes the Globes stage.
‘His return as master of ceremonies at the Golden Globes is much anticipated.
‘It is sure to make for an unexpected evening. We can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve.’
HFPA chief Lorenzo Soria added: ‘When Ricky Gervais is at the helm of the Golden Globes Awards, we can always expect the unexpected.
‘We’re excited to see it all unfold on January 5!’
The iconic decision comes at the same time that many other awards shows are choosing to have no host at all.
As well as doing his (apparently) last hosting of the Globes, 2020 will also see Gervais’s second series of Afterlife.
