Ricky Gervais says partner treats him 'like a toddler' because of annoying habit

Comedian Ricky Gervais is stuck working from home, like the majority of the nation, due to the coronavirus lockdown, and it turns out he’s been annoying his long-term partner Jane Fallon.

The funnyman has been doing nightly Twitter streams at 6pm and trying to keep himself busy while at home, but said on Friday’s Graham Norton Show that he’d been getting on Jane’s nerves.

Speaking via a video link, due to social distancing guidelines, Ricky told Graham: “I’ve never heard Jane say this so much in the last month.

“She’s trying to write another novel, she’s working at home, as she always does, but usually I’m out.”

He explained: “She keeps going, ‘Ssh, keep quiet darling,’ so affectionately. ‘Shush now for one hour.’ It’s like having a toddler home during the holidays.”

Speaking of his live streams, Ricky said: “The joke is that I’m like Churchill during the war trying to keep up the morale.

“I do a live Twitter feed at 6pm and, of course, it’s a shambles.

“You know how much effort goes into a half-hour show.

“I turn it on, I’ve started drinking, it’s an absolute shambles, but it kills time.”

During the interview, Graham spoke to Ricky about his Netflix show After Life, in which he plays the lead role of Tony Johnson.

The first season burst onto screens last year to huge praise, and the second is set to premiere on April 24 this year.

But it seems, if Ricky could get his way, a potential third season would end up looking very different.

Speaking of his video call wth Graham, he joked: “This is easy. I wish I could film everything in my house with a drink. It’s a revelation.”

His fans would probably have something to say about that, though.

The Graham Norton Show airs Fridays at 9pm on BBC One
