Chat show host Ricki Lake turned 51-years-old earlier this year.

She is the second oldest contestant to appear in the show, following TV journalist Martin Bashir who is 56.

Lake first started her career in film when she starred as Tracy Turnblad in the 1988 classic Hairspray.

She made a cameo appearance in the 2007 remake of the musical as a William Morris talent agent and later teamed up with Nikki Blonsky who played Tracy in the new film and Marissa Jared Winokur who took on the part in the Broadway musical, to record Mama I’m A Big Girl Now for the soundtrack.

Lake also starred in Cry-Baby, Mrs. Winterbourne with Shirley MacLaine, Cabin Boy and Last Exit to Brooklyn.

Lake became the youngest talk show host at the age of 24 when The Ricki Lake Show first aired.

After 11 years of entertaining and educating fans, the show came to an end in 2004.

She briefly hosted another talk show in 2012 but was cancelled after just one season.

In a statement about the show’s cancellation, Lake said: “I am so proud of the shows we completed this season, sparking important conversations about everything from raising children to mental illness to suicide prevention to coming out.

“I will continue to be an active and passionate voice for subjects that are close to my heart through a variety of platforms – and a return to my documentary filmmaking work with Abby Epstein.”

After the brief rebirth of the show, Lake became the executive producer of ‘Weed the People’, a programme exploring the lives of families who treat their cancer-stricken children with marijuana.

When she first entered Cowell’s home to meet the other contestants, she said: “People from the UK probably know me best from my talk show The Ricki Lake Show.

“I really very much wanted to be a singer long before I wanted to be a talk show host and the fact I get to revisit it now is really exciting.”

X Factor Celebrity continues tonight, Saturday, October 26, on ITV at 8.20pm.
