Rick Astley to play free gig for NHS and emergency service workers in Manchester


Rick Astley has announced a free concert for NHS and emergency service workers who are fighting coronavirus.

The legendary pop singer, best known for his first hit single Never Gonna Give You Up, will be performing at the Manchester Arena in October as a thank you to the everyday heroes.

NHS frontline staff, primary care workers and blue light staff are all eligible for tickets to the one-off show.

Tickets will be limited to two per person and will be available from Thursday April 2 at 7pm via Ticketmaster.

In a statement posted on social media, the 54-year-old star said: “Our NHS and emergency services are amazing. This concert is a thank you to all those fantastic frontline staff.

“I promise my band and I will give it everything to give you a great night out.”

The Rick Astley gig at the Manchester Arena will take place on Wednesday, October 28.

Those eligible for free tickets are able to bring one guest with them and will need to bring valid ID to the show.

Rick recently shared a video message on social media, saying to his followers: “Hi there, I’m Rick Astley and I’m here to announce that I’m going to be doing a concert for the NHS, all the Primary Care givers, all the frontline people, the blue light people.

“It’s on the 28th October in Manchester at the MEN Arena. It’s free to you guys because I just want to say a massive thank you and I don’t know how else to do it.

“You’re doing an amazing job, the whole country thanks you. So hopefully we’ll see you there, we’ll have a fantastic night.”

Many gigs and festivals have been cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
