Richard Madden has suggested that filming sex scenes with Taron Egerton for the upcoming Rocketman biopic were not fun.
The Bodyguard actor plays Sir Elton John’s former lover and manager John Reid in the film based on the singer’s life but admitted that he chose to only film this scene because it was so ‘relevant’ to the film.
‘Sex scenes are never fun to shoot but I only ever do these things if there’s a real justification for them,’ he said.
‘This is the first time Elton ever had sex with anyone so that’s why it’s a relevant scene, in terms of his progression.’
Opening with Elton in rehab, the film will follow the pop star – real name Reginald Kenneth Dwight – from his humble beginnings in a London suburb to the music studio, worldwide success and the trappings of fame that come along with it.
In an exclusive clip on Metro.co.uk, we saw that before the drugs, the outlandish outfits, the chart success and the acclaim, Elton was just a burgeoning musician at the mercy of record executives – and terrified of a performance at the iconic LA venue, The Troubador.
‘Best thing I’ve heard since Let It Be,’ exclaims Line Of Duty’s Stephen Graham as Dick James in the clip, ‘transf***ingatlantic, I always knew you boys could do it’.
‘First thing I’m going to do – three album deal… and I got you a couple of nights at the Troubador.’
‘Hang on, the Troubador?’ retorts Elton, worried.
‘Let’s not be hasty… the thing is, I haven’t even have a backing band… Dick, I don’t want to be ungrateful but you can’t just spring the Troubador on me.’
Oh but he can, and he will… and with a word of warning, he reminds Elton: ‘You f**k it up I’ll kill you.’
Taron previously opened up on the ‘beautiful’ sex scene in Rocketman which will show fans the moment that Elton John loses his virginity.
Revealing that he doesn’t ‘know how much further we could have gone’, Taron admitted that ‘in the script, this is the scene of Elton losing his virginity and we wanted to try to do that justice’.
‘They were falling in love and it’s beautiful because it should be.’
Taron, who stars as the Your Song singer in the upcoming biopic, added: ‘We didn’t want to play like they were a couple who were eventually going to fall apart, we wanted to play it like two guys in their early twenties who are falling in love and who are incredibly sexually attracted to each other.’
