Richard Hammond: The Grand Tour presenter crashes motorbike while filming from home

Richard Hammond, 50, has been spending time at home with his family during the nationwide lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic. A behind-the-scenes video was shared to his DriveTribe YouTube account, where he features alongside The Grand Tour co-stars James May and Jeremy Clarkson.

Richard attempted to recreate the epic 2004 TV show, Long Way Round, which documented Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman traveling from London to New York on motorcycles.

The former Top Gear presenter began: “Look, I do get that not everybody is madly in love with bikes.

“Well, I am today going to make my own exciting and sometimes moving tribute to that great TV show with my own working from home Long Way Round.”

As Richard is confined to his home, he explained he would carry out the journey by taking some laps across his courtyard while his daughter filmed him.

As Richard pulled off he drove straight ahead into his garage door, while his daughter chuckled at the incident.

“It was in gear but when I took it off the stand it just ran,” he laughed.

Fortunately, Richard was seemingly not injured during the minor accident but had another dilemma on his hands.

The family garage door was dented as The Grand Tour star detailed as he assessed the damage.

He moaned: “Oh no I’ve bent it,” as he pulled the motorbike away from the garage door.

The former Top Gear star turned to his daughter and chimed: “That’s a proper adventure now that it’s got a crash in it.”

He added: “Do you think less of me as your father now?”

His daughter didn’t reply to his remark but continued to laugh off the blunder.

Meanwhile, Richard was flown to hospital to check him over after a crash while filming The Grand Tour in Switzerland in 2017.

Fortunately, the former Top Gear host was uninjured when he escaped from the wreckage.

Prior to this, Richard suffered brain injuries when he lost control of a Vampire dragster while filming for Top Gear in 2006.

He was in a coma for two weeks after the accident at Elvington Airfield, near York.
