Richard E. Grant gushes forth after seeing 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker': 'Nothing prepares you for this'

Richard E. Grant has said he ‘stood and cheered’, ‘cried’ and ‘fist pumped the air’ while watching an early screening of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Not far off tears, he explains that ‘what [the movie] achieves, weaves & resolves, is a total emotional meltdown & resurrection of the Spirit’, while almost having an emotional meltdown himself.

“Bravo to @jjabrams & his astonishing cast & creative crew,” he adds.

Not much is known about Grant’s role in the movie – his first appearance in the Star Wars universe – other than he plays Allegiant General Pryde, a high-ranking general in the First Order.

This would likely set him either in cahoots with – or perhaps in conflict with – Domhnall Gleeson’s embattled General Hux.

It appears to be the first reaction of any kind for the movie, which is yet to be screened to critics.

Starring Grant alongside Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid and Billy Dee Williams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker lands in the UK on 19 December.
