Review: Turtle Beach gives us a couple of great new headsets to cover all your gaming needs

One of the worst things for an adult gamer with a family is trying to play quietly at night when the kids are in bed, especially when you want to experience the deafening quality of audio that benefits most, if not all, games these days.

Quality headsets are a must and even, if like me, you don’t need a microphone for mulit-player games online, a pair of great sounding cans are a necessity for the modern day gamer.

Turtle Beach Battle Buds

Enter Turtle Beach (who else really?), who have delivered time and again when it comes to great headphones – and these two new items are no different.

The Turtle Beach Recon 70 is the company’s latest series of powerful and affordable wired gaming headsets. Available for £29.99, the Recon 70 delivers high-quality game audio through powerful 40mm over-ear speakers and features Turtle Beach’s signature high-sensitivity flip-to-mute mic.

When on, the headset feels light and comfortable over those hours-long gaming sessions and the padded ear cushioning really does its job. The audio is near perfect, providing crisp and clean sound, whether its monologue in a cut scene or an epic set piece with explosions a-plenty.

If you don’t fancy an over the head set of headphones, the new Turtle Beach Battle Buds are going to be your new best friend. A high-performance in-ear headset designed for gamers on the go, these bad boys were a joy to use while on the train with my Nintendo Switch.

The Battle Buds’ standout feature is the removable high-sensitivity boom microphone, which delivers crystal-clear in-game chat with other players. When not gaming, the boom mic can be easily detached, and the inline mic can be used for taking calls and chatting on the go.

Comfort is no problem for these little crackers and even over long periods, the bud felt comfortable and delivered excellent audio quality at all times.

The Battle Buds are priced at a very reasonable £24.99. Along with the great price for the Recon 70 at £29.99, it seems Turtle Beach have really spoiled us gamers and there’s now no excuse for waking up the kids at 2am.
