Retro video games return to North Bay Museum – BayToday

The North Bay Museum is going back in time to offer its fourth annual “Game On!” Retro Video Game Exhibit and Arcade over March Break.

Naomi Hehn, Museum Curator, says the event has always been a popular March Break event.

“We are setting up our ‘Game On’ event again this March Break because of the fantastic response from the community,” said Hehn in a release.

“Retro video gaming allows parents to show their kids the games they grew up playing, for youth to discover a new hobby, and for everyone to have fun together. This event also brings new audiences into the North Bay Museum and introduces them to our other exhibits and events.”

Admission will be $5 and it includes entry to the museum and unlimited gaming on consoles.

Museum staff and volunteers will be on hand to help gamers learn to play a wide variety of games and consoles. Visitors can also enjoy STEAM-related activities connected to the museum’s Science North THINK Hub or try shipwreck related activities downstairs in the museum.

Consoles include Atari 2600, Sega Master System, NES, SNES, Gameboy, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Nintendo Game Cube, Sega Dreamcast, and Intellivision.  Popular games available include Duck Hunt, Super Mario, Smash Bros. and many more.

“There will be a variety of consoles dating back 40 years for everyone to come in and enjoy hands on,” said Dan Valent, Expert Gamer and Museum Volunteer.

Valent adds that guests will be able to see the evolution of home video game technology with consoles they are familiar with and even some they are may have never seen before.

“It will be such a thrill to see all of this equipment running together in the same place. Consoles will even be plugged into period-correct tube televisions, ensuring the complete retro feel,” he continued.

Game On will take place March 16 to -21 from 10 a.m. to  5 p.m. daily.
