Chelsea are ready to bring Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech back to Stamford Bridge in a brand new role behind-the-scenes as he prepares to retire at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old has already announced he will hang up his gloves in May, having lost his place in the Arsenal team to Bernd Leno, though the Gunners had hoped to convince him to stay on in a coaching role.

But, according to the Telegraph, Chelsea are confident he can be tempted back to the Bridge, where he spent 11 years winning multiple Premier League titles and the Champions League.

However, rather than taking on a coaching role, Chelsea want Cech to be part of a new-look technical staff, fulfilling some of the old tasks of Michael Emenalo.

Director Marina Granovskaia has taken on the majority of Emenalo’s old duties since he departed the club, but Cech would share some of the burden in terms of recruitment and bridging the gap between the board and the manager.

Roman Abramovich has always respected Cech’s opinion on previous Chelsea managers and players and they still enjoy a good relationship.

The west Londoners are keen to bring back some of the players who etched their name into Chelsea’s history during the most successful era of the club’s history.

Clubs such as Ajax, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have a strong presence of former players in the upper echelons of their setup, and it is an approach that is being copied now by Premier League clubs.

Cech is thought to be willing to return but will not make his final decision until the end of the season after assessing all his options, but Chelsea’s board believe he would get the fans back onside after a disappointing season.
