Resident Evil 8: Village out spring 2019 with Chris Redfield as villain claims rumour

Yet another source has added to the chorus of voices claiming a new Resident Evil 8 is brewing, one with a more supernatural edge.

Resident Evil 3 hasn’t been out for a week yet and already rumours are swirling of the next mainline entry, now believed to be called Resident Evil 8: Village.

The interesting thing is that multiple sources have all come out with very similar sounding information, with fansite Biohazardcast claiming that the new game will be released sometime in the first three months of 2021.

They claim that Resident Evil 8 will once again be first person, and will star Resident Evil 7 protagonist Ethan Winters and series mainstay Chris Redfield… but with the latter as a bad guy.

The setting for the game is apparently a European village, which for fans of the series will immediately bring to mind Resident Evil 4.

It’s also claimed that Ethan will suffer from hallucinations that the player will be unable to tell are not real. This not only matches with rumours from other sources but is also similar to prototype designs for Resident Evil 4, which focused on paranormal enemies rather than the usual science-based ones.

Whether that means the witch character that’s mentioned is literally a witch isn’t clear, but apparently she’ll use insects in a similar manner to Marguerite from the last game.

In terms of the story, supposedly Chris will appear in flashbacks involving Ethan and his family, where he seems to shoot his way into their house. Although whether this is a hallucination or some other kind of twist is unclear.

Biohazardcast’s source is apparently a tester at Capcom, which suggests the game is relatively far along and presumably in a state in which it could be announced relatively soon.

Of course, there’s no proof for any of this (the image above is of Biohazardcast’s making and based on descriptions given by their source) and the reason they’re so similar to others could be simply that everyone is copying each other.

But according to AestheticGamer, who was behind earlier rumours, the reason he wasn’t sure whether the game was Resident Evil 8 or not is because it actually started life as Resident Evil: Revelations 3.

The Revelations sub-series was heavily focused on co-op in its last iteration, so that may imply that Resident Evil 8 will be as well.
