Chelsea youngster Reece James needed oxygen on the pitch before being stretchered off while playing for England Under 20s.

James suffered a suspected broken ankle and is set to miss the start of the new season for Chelsea.

England U20s were taking on Chile in the Toulon Tournament when James picked up the injury just before the half hour mark.

The 19-year-old needed oxygen, but was conscious when being stretchered off, with England chasing their first win in Group A.

James enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Wigan last season and was set to be given a chance to impress for Chelsea in pre-season.

But that now appears unlikely, as James joins fellow academy graduates Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi on the long-term injury list.

Chelsea are facing a difficult summer with a transfer ban looming over the Blues.

There were reports in recent weeks that Chelsea were ready to accept their two-window ban, rather than risk extending the suspension should they lose their appeal.

It was confirmed this week Chelsea had lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport after Fifa had rejected their immediate objection to the ban last month.
