Red Velvet’s SBS Gayo Daejeon performance axed as Wendy suffers injuries to her wrist and pelvis in rehearsals

Red Velvet member Wendy is being treated in hospital after suffering injuries during rehearsals for her solo performance at SBS Gayo Daejeon.

The K-pop group were also meant to perform together at the music festival on Christmas Day, however their stage was subsequently pulled.

SM Entertainment announced that Wendy was treated in hospital following injuries to her wrist, pelvis and face.

The agency said: ‘During the rehearsal for the 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon today, Wendy suffered an injury. Wendy was immediately taken to the hospital, where she is currently being treated… As a result, Red Velvet are not able to attend the pre-recording and live show of the 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon. We ask for understanding from fans who are at the venue.’

South Korean broadcaster SBS also released a statement saying: ‘On the 25th, an unfortunate incident occurred with Red Velvet’s Wendy getting injured during the rehearsal for the SBS Gayo Daejeon. Because of this, Red Velvet will not be on stage for the live broadcast for Gayo Daejeon.

‘We apologize to the fans and viewers. We hope for Wendy’s quick recovery, and SBS will pay particular attention to the safety of participants in the future.’

Updates on Red Velvet’s schedule will be released in due course.

The girl group, made up of Wendy, Seulgi, Joy, Irene and Yeri, were believed to be performing their new single Psycho at the event in Seoul.

The track recently achieved a ‘certified all-kill’, topping all the major south Korean music charts.

It is the lead single from their comeback album The ReVe Festival – Finale.
