Red Dead Redemption 2 Online has new rewards available to fans ready to make a few changes to their Rockstar Social account
It was only recently revealed that the popular multiplayer mode saw a drop in the number of active players in January.
This was revealed in a Super Data report that also noted digital game revenue was down across many platforms for the start of the year.
But while that may have come as a surprise for some fans, there has been other good news shared this week by Rockstar Games.
The studio released a new update this week that they say has improved the game and will be followed by further changes.
This has been helped along by the Red Dead Online beta, which doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon.
“This beta period allows us to shape and improve the fundamentals of that world before the journey of Red Dead Online truly begins,” Rockstar told fans earlier this week.
“As Red Dead Online evolves, we will keep adding and improving features to give you a deeper connection to the world, your character, your horse and your weapons, as well as adding new gameplay that will help players carve out their own fate across the lawless frontier.”
As many suspected, Rockstar is now drip-feeding new content into the game, which could continue over the coming weeks.
The Evans Repeater, a powerful long-range rifle, was added via the latest update, alongside the Fool’s Gold Free Roam event.
But the thing that probably caught the eye of RDR2 fans the most was the announcement of a new care package.
“We appreciate all the support you’ve shown thus far during the beta period, and this week all Red Dead Online Beta participants will receive a special care package (redeemed either at your camp’s lockbox or at any post office across the five states) as a show of our appreciation,” Rockstar adds.
“This includes a host of items to help you survive life on the frontier and tackle any new Daily Challenges in Free Roam or Free Roam Events, on mission or in a Showdown Series.”
Fans can also grab 10 gold bars this weekend if they are willing to add 2-Step Verification to their Social Club account.
With 2-Step Verification enabled, signing in to your account on a new device will require your Nickname or Email, Password, and a Verification Code generated by an Authenticator on your mobile phone, tablet, or browser.
It should be noted that a new Verification Code is required when signing in from an unrecognised device or location.
The good news is that when you perform this task, Rockstar Games will reward you with GTA$ 500,000 in your GTA Online account and 10 Gold Bars in your Red Dead Online Beta account.
They have also promised “Additional future benefits in both GTA Online, and the Red Dead Online Beta,” which sounds like more bonuses are planned.
When it comes to future content, it appears that Rockstar has plenty in the pipeline.
New property-buying options are expected to be added to the game in the coming months, alongside other features found in GTA Online.
A new layer of money-making options will also be announced; however, little has been shared on this subject yet.
New vehicles are expected to be made available to fans who have the cash to buy them, with a War Wagon leaked last year.
A recent Take-Two Interactive earnings call confirmed that the company is completely satisfied with the performance of Red Dead Online.
Take-Two believes Red Dead 2 has built better “early traction” with gamers than GTA Online and are pleased with the player base numbers.
“Obviously the experiences are a work in progress, and there will be a lot more content to come,” Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed.
“But in terms of comparing where Grand Theft Auto Online was in terms of engagement at this stage of the game, versus where Red Dead Online at this stage in the game, Red Dead Online has more engagement, is doing better and has a lot more early traction. Which we think is very encouraging.”
