EVERY year, Notting Hill throws one of the world’s biggest street parties with its famous carnival.
Almost one million people head to the two-day London event. But if you can’t make it, why not bring the party to you?
Get the barbecue going this bank holiday weekend with your own carnival-inspired party — without breaking the bank . . .
COVER YOURSELF: Even in August, the unpredictable British weather can leave our garden parties a bit soggy. Be prepared with a garden gazebo.
They also work as shade from the sun, if we do have that scorcher. You don’t need to fork out a fortune.
Head to Wayfair, where Shumpert 3m x 3m metal party tents, in various colours, are £18.99, usually £47.99.
SAVE: £29
SPICE IT UP: Jerk chicken is one of the Caribbean’s most famous dishes.
Experiment with your barbecue flavours by trying Dunn’s River Jamaican jerk seasoning, down to £1.80 at Sainsbury’s, usually £2.10.
You can be traditional and use cheap and cheerful chicken thighs, £1.80 for 1kg, also Sainsbury’s.
But it is also great used as a marinade for fish or vegetarian kebabs.
SAVE: 30p
RUM-THING AMAZING: Get your garden carnival going with a glass of rum. Light rums are perfect for cocktails, while darker ones are great enjoyed on the rocks, so there will be something to suit plenty of tastes.
Grab a bottle of Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold Rum, which is currently on offer at Asda for £13. Was £15.75.
SAVE: £2.75
DRESS TO IMPRESS: Put on your brightest gear to get into the party mood.
Feathers are optional, but for some easy extra sass, add a touch of sparkle with body glitter.

A winner speaks
PART-TIME cleaner Betty Preen, 52, could not believe her luck after she scooped a life-changing sum of £50,000 in July’s Sun Raffle.
Betty, who has been widowed for 15 years after husband Les died suddenly of a rare cancer, is planning to spend her winnings on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to see the Northern Lights.
It is something she and Les had planned to do in their retirement.
Mum-of-one Betty, who also works as a carer, says: “I’m petrified of flying, so much so that I’ve never been on a plane before.
“But I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights.
“It is something Les and I had talked about doing when we both retired.
“Neither of us imagined Les wouldn’t live to see that.
“But you never know what’s around the corner, so now I’ve got this money I’m going to take the plunge and go for it.
“I know Les will be there with me in spirit.”
I was gobsmacked when I won the £50,000…now I’m off on a dream trip
Sun Savers winner Betty Preen
Betty still hasn’t told her son Sam, 26, about her incredible win.
She says: “When I found out I’d won I just didn’t believe it.
‘“I was sat at home having a cup of tea and went to check my emails to see if my rota had come through when I saw an email saying “Congratulations”.
“I read and re-read it 20 times before I got in touch with The Sun, and they confirmed it.
“When the call came through I was gobsmacked.
“I was at work, and my friend said, ‘What’s that all about?’
“I said, ‘I think I’ve won 50 grand’.
“Then she said ‘You jammy so and so!’.
“I’m going to write a cheque out for Sam, and when I go and give it to him I’ll tell him about the win.
“He’s moving in with his girlfriend, so I’m sure some extra cash will really help him out.”
As well as helping her son, biker chick Betty is also planning to splash the cash on a new motorbike.
She says: “I used to have a moped but it got pinched and I couldn’t afford to replace it.
“Biking is a hobby Les and I shared. I’d love to get a Lambretta or a proper motorbike.”
Betty and her family have been reading The Sun for decades and she has been a member of Sun Savers every day from day one. She won the jackpot after collecting 18 Raffle tickets in July.
She says: “I’ve been a Sun Savers member since it started and I enter anything and everything I can. I think it’s great. I never expected to win £50,000, though!”
She says: “Usually I let my free Sun Savers fivers build up over a while then give them to Sam to help him out with bills and things. It’s great!”
