Rebecca Adlington: ‘It’s been life-changing’ Olympic swimmer opens up on having huge move

Rebecca Adlington, 30, who will be appearing in Pointless tonight in a Sports Personality of the Year edition, recently opened up on a “life-changing” move. The Olympic swimmer explained she sought help after suffering from mental health issues.

Rebecca candidly said she had been getting help since she began having panic attacks last year.

She spilled to The Mirror in June: “It’s been life-changing, not just because of the therapy but talking about it a lot more. I haven’t really told anyone.

“Loads of my friends and family members have all suffered from mental health problems over the last 10 years, so it’s not something that is hush-hush in our family anyway.

“And I know from my family’s experience every single one of us has a different trigger which brings on panic attacks.

“Mine is always to do with death and the unknown, and control and stuff.”

Rebecca is mum to daughter Summer, five, who she shares with ex-husband, former swimmer Harry Needs.

The couple split after two years of marriage, when their daughter was six-months-old.

She is now in a relationship with Andrew Parsons and regularly shares sweet snaps of the two of them to her Instagram account.

The pair recently enjoyed a holiday to Croatia and Rebecca shared some cute photos of them together.

She captioned it: “Back to reality today after a lovely few days away in Dubrovnik!! It’s such a beautiful amazing place… I would highly recommend! #dubrovnik #holiday #travel”

Elsewhere, Rebecca spoke out on this weekend’s Sport Personality of the Year 2019 contenders.

The mother-of-one wasn’t happy with the list of nominees as she believed fellow swimmer Adam Peaty should have been included.

Adam, 24, won three events at the World Championships this year and smashed a world record.

Rebecca said she was “disappointed” he was missed off as she replied to BBC’s tweet about the event.

BBC wrote: “Your @BBCSPOTY 2019 contenders have been revealed!

“Dina Asher-Smith, Lewis Hamilton, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Alun Wyn Jones, Raheem Sterling, Ben Stokes.

“Details on how to vote http://bbc.in/2OhbAXZ. #SPOTY.”

Rebecca commented: “This is an unbelievable list but disappointing not to see @adam_peaty!!

“I’m not just saying that as he’s from swimming but he’s won 3 World Championships gold and a world record!!”

Pointless airs tonight on BBC One at 5.30pm
