Reba McEntire calls out ACMs for lack of female Entertainer of the Year nominees

Host Reba McEntire called out the Academy of Country Music awards for failing to nominate a single woman in its biggest category, Entertainer of the Year.

This is the second time the awards body has failed to nominate any female artists for its top honour.

At the ceremony on Sunday, 7 April, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, McEntire said: ”Do you know it snowed in Las Vegas just a few weeks ago? It was so cold, it froze us women out of Entertainer of the Year.”

She then went on to suggest the perfect candidate for a nomination: Kacey Musgraves, who won Album of the Year at this year’s Grammys for Golden Hour, alongside Grammys for the best country song, country album, and country solo performance.

At the ACMS, Musgraves won both Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.

“But you know what, that didn’t bother Kacey Musgraves, because she’s been too busy carrying all of her Grammys around,” McEntire said.

Out of the 48 times Entertainer of the Year has been handed out since 1971, it’s only gone eight times to a woman. Taylor Swift was the last woman to win, in 2011.
