Real Madrid star Eder Militao would demand first-team football at Liverpool if he was to sign for the Reds. That is according to La Liga expert Kevin Campbell. The Brazilian has been strongly linked with an Anfield switch after failing to break into Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Real Madrid star Militao would demand to play at Liverpool if he was to sign for the club this January.
That is the verdict from Campbell, who is an expert on La Liga football.
Jurgen Klopp has seen his defence ransacked by injuries this season, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out for the season.
Joel Matip has also had his problems with fitness, leaving the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to ditch their midfield duties and go into defence.
The Premier League champions have been linked with a number of players but The Athletic have reported Militao could be a solution.
He has failed to make an impression at Real Madrid this season under Zidane but is still highly-rated and could be allowed to leave on loan.
And Campbell believes Liverpool would be making an excellent decision to snap up the Brazilian.
“Militao is a very good player,” he told Football Insider.
“I have seen him play quite a bit and I really rate him. A Brazil international who is strong, quick, and still of a very good age as well.
“Can I see it happening? Probably not. If he was to leave Real Madrid to go to Liverpool, he would want to start. He would not want to go there to be a back-up.
“I cannot see it but it all depends on what he has been told by the club because wherever he goes, he would want to be playing.”
Youngsters Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips are other options Klopp could call on and Kevin Phillips believes the duo have the ability to make the step up.
“It would be a definite blow [to lose Matip] but the lads who have come in, Williams and Phillips, have proved that they can do a job, he told Football Insider.
“Yes, they will want Matip fit but these young lads do not have any fear when there is no crowd there. These players actually rise to the challenge.
“Klopp would not play them if he did not think they could handle the pressure.”
