Eden Hazard is a major doubt for Real Madrid’s crunch Champions League tie with Manchester City on Wednesday after hobbling off injured in a 1-0 defeat at Levante on Saturday night.

The former Chelsea ace was left icing his ankle on the bench after being brought off in the 67th minute, with Vinicius Junior replacing him.

Hazard was seen shaking his head with frustration as he limped around the pitch for several minutes before he was withdrawn for the action and he will need an incredibly speedy recovery if he’s to face Premier League outfit City in midweek.

It’s far from ideal timing for the Belgium international to pick up a knock, in a week where Real Madrid also face La Liga title contenders Barcelona.

Hazard had only recently returned from a fractured ankle, which ruled him out from November until a home clash with Celta Vigo just a week ago.

Zidane said after the match: ‘It doesn’t look good. It can become weak where you’ve had an injury. It is a blow, let’s see. It’s sore now but we’ll see tomorrow, when we do more tests.’

Should he have repeated that injury, he will face another lengthy lay-off.

It’s been a stop-start season for Hazard who has only scored one goal since his move from Chelsea last summer, making just eight league starts.

To make matters worse for Zidane, Real conceded after Hazard’s departure with Jose Luis Morales Nogales scoring with 10 minutes left of normal time.
