Real Madrid believe both Arsenal and Manchester City will be interested in signing Isco in the January transfer window, according to reports in Spain.

Isco was expected to move on over the summer but appeared to have made a U-turn, deciding instead to fight for his place in Zinedine Zidane’s starting line-up.

However, the midfielder has only started two La Liga games for Real Madrid so far this season and has not featured at all in the Champions League.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Isco is desperate to win his place back in the Spain squad ahead of next summer’s European Championships.

The 27-year-old has 38 caps for his country but was one of a number of high-profile absentees from Roberto Moreno’s most recent squad.

He will now reportedly look to secure a long-mooted Premier League move in January having been told that regular first-team football at the top level is what the Spain boss needs to see in order to offer him a recall.

And Madrid are said to be certain that both Arsenal and Man City regard Isco as a dream signing with Unai Emery’s midfield still requiring strengthening and Pep Guardiola seeing the Spanish international as a long-term replacement for the departing David Silva.

Isco’s departure would also grease the wheels for any incoming transfers with Real supposedly unwilling to make any purchases without clearing room in their 25-man squad.

The AS report claims that should Isco leave, Madrid could make a January play for Tottenham contract rebel Christian Eriksen in an effort to ensure he does not sell his services to the highest bidder when his current deal expires in the summer.

However, president Florentino Perez would rather redouble his efforts to sign Kylian Mbappe, the PSG winger who is likely to command a fee of more than £200million.
