Real Madrid concerned Brexit could leave Gareth Bale with uncertain future

Gareth Bale may not be allowed to play for Real Madrid if the United Kingdom leave the European Union with a hard Brexit , meaning his future could be up in the air.

La Liga clubs may only register three non-EU players in their squads, and those three spots are currently taken up by Eder Militao, Vincius Jr and Rodrygo.

According to Spanish outlet AS this would mean Bale could miss out on being registered and therefore become illegible to play in La Liga.

However, the Spanish government have begun to work on legislation which would allow UK nationals to continue legally working in the country, and Bale could also apply for a long-term citizenship because he arrived in the country in 2013.

Brexit could affect Gareth Bale’s Real Madrid career

Regardless of Brexit, Bale is expected to leave the club in the summer, with the club furious with him after he posed with a flag that read “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order” during a game for his national side.

The flag poked fun at Bale’s perceived order of priorities, with the 30-year-old admitting that he prefers playing for his country than for Madrid, while he is also known to spend more time playing golf than socialising with teammates.

Bale has made seven appearances in La Liga so far this season, scoring two goals and creating two assists, and he has regularly been booed and whistled by Madrid fans.

It remains to be seen whether Bale is involved when Madrid take on Valencia on Sunday looking to capitalise on Barcelona’s 2-2 draw with Real Sociedad on Saturday and go top of the table ahead of El Clasico on Wednesday.
