RB Leipzig send Liverpool Timo Werner message after surprise Watford defeat

German side RB Leipzig delighted supporters with a comical response to Liverpool’s shock 3-0 Premier League defeat to Watford on Twitter .

The Reds went into the game looking to make history by becoming the first top flight side to win 19 games in a row, but instead they were left shell-shocked as two goals from Ismaila Sarr and one from Troy Deeney saw the Hornets claim a famous 3-0 win.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Leipzig’s in-form striker Timo Werner in recent weeks, and the club couldn’t resist a cheeky dig after the full-time whistle at Vicarage Road.

The Reds’ official account posted the final score, and Leipzig responded with an image of Werner looking at a mobile phone with a surprised look on his face.

Despite the result Liverpool’s fans reacted in a generally positive manner to Leipzig’s post, with one saying “This is the weirdest transfer announcement I’ve seen, but I’ll take it,” while another added “Live reaction of Timo seeing the score after saying he’s interested in Liverpool.”

Werner, who has scored 21 goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances during the current campaign, has a £50m release clause this summer, and Liverpool appear to be leading the race for his signature.

It is a move the player certainly seems interested in, with the 23-year-old recently responding to a question about speculation by saying “You have there the best coach in the world with Jurgen Klopp. There are many things that would suggest my style of play might be a good fit.”

Liverpool will look to bounce back from their disappointing result against Watford when they take on Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Tuesday trying to keep their hopes of a treble alive before returning to Premier League action against Bournemouth on Saturday.
