RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has refused to rule out the sale of Timo Werner, but insisted his side had not received any offers for the forward.
Liverpool are expected to make a move for Werner and have been tipped to trigger the German’s £60million release clause before it expires in April.
Werner, 23, has already scored 25 goals in all competitions for Leipzig this season and Mintzlaff has now moved to play down reports Liverpool are poised to sign the striker.
‘We hear these reports all the time,’ he told Transfermarkt.
‘Someone makes something up, and everyone else copies it. Werner is happy here and wants to play the rest of the season.’
After three quiet transfer windows in a row, Jurgen Klopp is expected to oversee a far busier one at the end of the current campaign.
Liverpool are edging close to winning their first ever Premier League title and Klopp is keen to strengthen an already talented squad this summer.
Werner, who has also been linked with Chelsea, would provide competition for Liverpool’s front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
The Germany international can play anywhere upfront but has been most prolific for Leipzig in the centre-forward position and has already expressed a desire to play in England.
‘When you score 20 goals as a 23-year-old in a season then, of course, there is interest. That’s clear,’ he told German outlet Kicker.
‘We are going into many important games. That’s what I want to focus on now. I can still contemplate my future later.
‘What do you say if a club comes knocking, a club which is one of the favourites to win the Champions League and makes an incredible offer? Most likely every player would think about it.
‘I can generally imagine playing abroad one day, although I don’t have any specific club where I want to be. I am open for everything.
‘I was in America for a holiday recently and English football was on all the time. That’s an exclamation mark for the Premier League.
‘But there are also big, famous clubs and it would certainly be fun playing there.’
