Ray Parlour believes Mesut Ozil should be sold in January and there’s no point in Unai Emery keeping him at the club if he’s not going to use him.

The Arsenal playmaker has fallen out of favour this season but showed his quality during the dramatic Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, being heavily involved in the Gunner’s attacking play before eventually being substituted off.

There were plenty of calls for him to be recalled to the starting XI for the weekend’s clash with Wolves but Emery is yet to start him in the Premier League and his exile may continue.

And should that go on, Parlour thinks Arsenal should look to get him off the books in January.

‘He won’t be sold in January so no chance of that because Ozil won’t go nowhere,’ he told TalkSport.

‘Should he be sold? Yes, he should be.

‘If you’re not going to play him on a regular basis you might as well get rid of him, yeah.’

Parlour also revealed he would not have Granit Xhaka as club captain following the Swiss’ row with the club’s fans.

‘The problem I’ve got with Xhaka being captain is who picked him,’ he added.

‘The players can’t pick him, I don’t agree with players picking captains. It should be the manager who picks the captain.

‘I wouldn’t have him captain. But there’s not a lot of other people who can be captain. Bellerin was captain the other night against Liverpool, he’s a candidate to be captain if he can play on a regular basis.

‘He’s been at the club a long time, he’s sort of a leader at the back. Xhaka? I don’t agree with the players picking him, no.’
