Transfer update: Grealish to make decision; Reds eye Traore

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour is convinced that the club are looking to bring in an attacking midfielder and a striker before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have already been busy, sealing the signings of full-back Nuno Tavares and centre midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

And they are also poised to complete a deal to bring Brighton centre-back Ben White to the Emirates for a fee of £50m.

In addition, they are also being strongly linked with Leicester’s James Maddison, who himself is believed to be open to the idea of a move away from the Foxes.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Parlour stated his belief that Maddison may be too difficult to prise away from the King Power Stadium.

But he appeared confident that his old team would continue trying to do business ahead of the new season.

“The problem (with Maddison) is the price tag,” he said. “Leicester would would want top money for him and would he want to leave Leicester?

“I think they will be backed and I think Brendan Rodgers will be backed. If he needs money to strengthen and bolster the squad I think the owner will say no problem there you go you just won us the FA Cup.

“Whether Arsenal have got the money to say he’s got to be worth £60-plus million maybe more. He’s a great, great player Maddison. He’s really really improved Leicester.

“I know for a fact Arsenal are looking for a No.10 and a striker at the moment and it’s about getting value for money.

“Certainly Leicester might price him out of the market from Arsenal’s point of view and they might have to look elsewhere.”

Recently the likes of Thierry Henry and Gary Neville have discussed Maddison, with some of the opinion that the 24-year-old is too arrogant.

The two pundits disagreed with this assessment, however, with Henry saying on an Instagram live session: “Keep on doing what you’re doing because I love the way you’re playing. I like to watch players like you. (Players) that think.

“Thinking is important in the game and there’s one thing we don’t use often, which is our brain. Don’t be scared of having a big ego.”

Neville added on Sky Sports: “We’re quick to mention players like Maddison being cocky.

“We used to say it about players like Joe Cole and Matt Le Tissier. Eric Cantona obviously was seen as an arrogant and cocky player. Jack Grealish has had it as well and there’s a stigma attached to some players.

“But actually that’s why they are the players they are. They’ve got flair, ability, they want to look good and look the part.

“They’re brilliant to watch and he [Maddison] is a fantastic player and I’m sure Leicester will be working very hard to make sure they hang on to him.”
