Ray Hadley has called off his June wedding to Sophie Baird due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Due to social distancing recommendations, the 65-year-old has postponed the nuptials to an as-yet undecided date. 

The 2GB radio host told The Daily Telegraph on Saturday that he informed friends and family last week.

The guests were said to be relieved about the change of plans, Ray admitted to the paper. 

‘When we realised coronavirus was here, everyone was happy to shift things around,’ he said.   

Sophie, who is aged in her 40s, and Ray, who is decades her senior, have know one another for 17 years, and have worked together all that time, with Sophie acting as his secretary.

The shock jock first went public with his love for Sophie in May 2018 – she had at that stage organised his work life for the past 16 years.

The pair made their first public appearance at his youngest daughter’s 21st birthday in 2018.

His friends revealed at the time that Ray was ‘captivated’ by the mother-of-two and has ‘harboured a crush on her’ for some time.

Ray told The Daily Telegraph that when he first asked the personal assistant for a date in 2017 she turned him down.

‘I said to Sophie, ‘Do you think maybe we could go out and have a cup of coffee or something?’ And she said: ‘No’!’ the radio personality admitted, however after asking her a second time she agreed. 

The pair became engaged in November last year with Ray, who is not known to be a romantic, simply asking:  ‘Well do you want to get married?’  

The veteran radio host split with his second wife, Suzanne in 2014. The couple had been married since 1994.
