Rashford had just seen his spot-kick crash back off the post in the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace when vile Twitter trolls took out their keyboards.

The England man was called a “n****r” by numerous accounts on the platform.

Speaking after the game, Reds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appalled once again.

He said: “It needs to stop. I am lost for words.

“We keep having all these campaigns and people keeping hiding behind fake identities.”

It also came just days after executives from the social media site are believed to have met with United representatives following the shocking tweets directed at Pogba.

The Frenchman took the penalty ahead of Rashford against Wolves on Monday night, but saw his effort superbly saved by Rui Patricio.

Twitter was awash of vile abuse directed at Pogba in the aftermath of his miss.

CALL TO ACTION

Rashford himself was one of the first to condemn the racists at the time.

He wrote: “Enough now, this needs to stop @Twitter.

“Manchester United is a family. @paulpogba is a huge part of that family. You attack him, you attack us all @manutd.”

Similar abuse has been levelled at Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham after his spot-kick failure against Liverpool last week while Reading’s Yakou Meite hit back after a disgraceful message on Instagram followed his side’s win over Cardiff.

The epidemic led to Kick It Out recently making a “call to action” for platforms to tackle the “insidious problem”.

POLICE TO WORK WITH UNITED

On Tuesday night, Twitter told Associated Press journalist Rob Harris that the matter was foremost a “societal” one.

Confirming that they “strongly condemn” racism and “are proactively monitoring the conversation”, the platform stated: “This is a societal issue and requires a societal response.

“This is why we maintain a dialogue with both the PFA and Kick It Out and are committed to working together to address abusive online and racist behaviour across the industry.”

Great Manchester Police have also said they will will work with United in a bid to identify and punish the idiots responsible.

And Twitter have already accelerated their plans to meet with equality group Kick It Out and present their blueprint for trying to combat the growing problem.

Following the Pogba abuse, his club were swift to condemn the abuse, but called on the social platforms to do more themselves to eradicate the issue.

A statement said: “The individuals who expressed these views do not represent the values of our great club and it is encouraging to see the vast majority of our fans condemn this on social media also.

“Manchester United has zero tolerance of any form of racism or discrimination and a long-standing commitment to campaigning against it through our #AllRedAllEqual initiative.

“We will work to identify the few involved in these incidents and take the strongest course of action available to us. We also encourage social media companies to take action in these cases.”
