Ranveer Singh’s film Gully Boy has been put forward for an Oscar, and we’re living for it.

The Bollywood movie – also starring Alia Bhatt and Siddhant Chaturvedi – focuses on the journey of Murad, a young wannabe rapper who is faced with tough decisions as he tries to follow his dreams.

And, as well as enticing fans across the world, it has now been tipped for Oscars success next year.

The 34-year-old shared the announcement on Instagram, telling his 26.8million followers: ‘We are so thrilled that #GullyBoy has been selected as India’s official entry to the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.

‘Thank you to the Film Federation of India, Aparna Sen, Supran Sen, Anindya Dasgupta, members of the jury and a big congratulations to our spectacular cast and crew.’

Without skipping a beat, fans rushed to congratulate Ranveer and the gang on their happy news.

‘I am soo damn proud of each one who was a part of the movie baba,’ one commented.

‘OH MY GOD. TOTALLY DESERVING!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS,’ another screamed.

‘Totally deserved it,’ an impressed follower posted.

And Nick Jonas simply slid in there with a fire emoji.

Although India has three Oscar nominations in the category, thanks to 1957 hit Mother India, Salaam Bombay in 1989, and most recently Lagaan in 2002, the country have never been successful at the Academy Awards.

Maybe 2020 is the year that all changes…

Ranveer recently opened up about just how much starring in the film meant to him, telling Metro.co.uk that he actually burst into tears the first time he saw the script.

Speaking about the role, Deepika Padukone’s husband said: ‘It really blew my mind because it was bursting with hardcore Mumbai flavour. It was these boys from the streets, rapping in Mumbai, in this world class show. It was new to me, I thought it was amazing.

‘She [Director Zoya Akhtar] wrote it, and I was shooting in Paris, and she came and narrated it to me. I was in tears. I was on in a heartbeat. That’s it, that’s how Gully Boy came about.

‘All credit to Zoya, who had this amazing idea of telling this story of a kid from the streets who lives a very hard life, a disenfranchised existence, and finds his expression in art. Like a bonfire hip hop artist.

‘This world she is presenting is going to be seen in the mainstream for the first time. That’s very exciting. Mumbai has always been legit underground, and it’s going to get mainstream exposure through Gully Boy.’

Well that exposure could soon be coming to Hollywood.
