Rangers near two transfer deals as McAllister makes Kent claim before Aribo medical

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is determined to improve his playing squad ahead of their Premiership battle with Celtic next season.

The ex-Liverpool man impressed the Rangers faithful despite failing to win a trophy in his debut season, but he could be about to further improve his standing with the fans by closing important deals.

Gary McAllister has handed supporters further hope in their desire for the club to resign Ryan Kent after he returned to Anfield after a season-long loan.

Kent won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year and has been linked with several Premier League clubs this summer.

However, McAllister has now revealed that he is confident in the ongoing negotiations between the Rangers and Liverpool.

He told the Scottish Sun: “It is ongoing, but the decisions at Liverpool will probably be later down the line.

“Is he worth the wait? I would say so.

“He has got a rapport with the fans and there is no doubt he enjoyed his time here.

“That’s on the pitch, in and around the training ground and the city as well — he enjoyed Glasgow.

“We have to be aware that Liverpool might receive bids, but you don’t know.

“If Ryan is to go back out on loan again, I think we’d be first in line.”

A deal that has already been agreed is one for Charlton midfielder Joe Aribo.

Aribo will be available on a free when he contract with the Championship club expires this summer, with the Mail claiming that a medical will be completed this weekend.

Charlton are likely to be paid a compensation fee for their box-to-box midfielder, which is expected to cost the Gers around £300,000.

Brighton and Aston Villa were both linked with his signature but the lure of having ex-England captain Gerrard as a boss trumped the Premier League offers.

The 22-year-old scored 10 goals last season as he helped fire Charlton to promotion from League One, and is tipped to become one of Rangers’ best paid players.
