Rangers legend Ally McCoist wants stint on I'm a Celeb to help him lose weight

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has revealed he wants to appear on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! to help him lose weight.

The former Ibrox player and manager said the lack of food in the Australian jungle could be what he needs to shed the pounds.

Contestants often lose weight as they’re forced to live off rations and take on Bushtucker Trials to win meals.

McCoist picked the ITV show as the reality programme he would most like to take part in.

He previously turned down an offer but said his burgeoning waistline may convince him to change his mind and insisted he could cope with the creepy crawlies.

The 57-year-old was told by former cricketer Freddie Flintoff, his co-host on the TalkSport breakfast show, that he lost 10kg during his time in the jungle.

He said: “I must admit the jungle is the one we love. We watch it as a family when it is on and it’s absolutely brilliant.

“Get me signed up for that. Get me on it and I’ll come out and be on the front of Men’s Health in a month. That would do me.

“Some people have a phobia about spiders but I am the only person in my house who can get rid of them. I get it on the back of my hand and chase the kids about the house.”

McCoist also said he had turned down offers to appear on Strictly Come Dancing. He said: “I got asked a good few times. I just think, with a young family, it’s so time-consuming.

“You speak to the guys who have been on it and they are doing seven or eight hours a day.”
