Rangers hero Graeme Souness reveals the decision Gers fans do NOT want Celtic to make

Rangers will end Steven Gerrard’s first season as manager without a trophy after their Old Firm rivals dominated domestically once again.

Celtic caretaker boss Neil Lennon may have led the Hoops to their eighth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, but his future at the club remains in doubt.

Former Rangers player and manager Souness has revealed he hopes on the one hand that Celtic let Lennon go but on the other that he will stay.

He told Sky Sports: “I worked with Neil Lennon for two years in television and he’s as good as anyone I’ve worked with.

“He gets his thinking from Martin O’Neill who got his from Brian Clough.”

Ex-Northern Ireland international Lennon has won eight of his 11 fixtures since returning to the club in February, drawing the other three.

Even if Celtic seal another domestic treble with a win over Hearts in the Scottish Cup final later this month he could leave, with rumours circulating that the job has been offered to Jose Mourinho.

“Neil Lennon knows his stuff,” Souness continued.

“I hope they don’t employ him as a Rangers supporter.

“But I want him to keep the job as he’s a good guy. They’d be crazy to get rid of him.

“If Neil wins the treble how much better can it get? He has fulfilled what he could do.”

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has a completely different view to Souness, and he believes Rangers will catch Celtic unless the Hoops appoint a ‘winner’ like the Gers have done with Gerrard.

“Rangers are breathing down their necks,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“They need to make sure they have someone at the helm who can take them forward and keep Rangers where they want them to be. That’s not an easy task.

“Steven Gerrard is a winner. I’ve seen it with England, with Liverpool.

“That kid wants to be successful and he will be.”
